Diana Shuman
Clinical Mental Health Counseling Student Intern
Hi, I’m Diana Shuman, a Master’s student in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Barry University. As a Palestinian counselor-in-training, I’m committed to creating a safe, culturally sensitive, and judgment-free space where Arab individuals and those from immigrant backgrounds can access mental health support with dignity, trust, and understanding.

I understand how cultural expectations, stigma, and family dynamics can make seeking therapy feel complicated or even intimidating. Many people carry the pressure to stay strong, keep things private, or avoid “burdening” others, even when they are struggling internally. My goal is to help clients navigate that journey with care and respect, honoring both their lived experiences and the cultural context that shapes them.

My counseling style is grounded in empathy, collaboration, and emotional safety. I support clients as they explore their thoughts, emotions, identity, and personal growth at a pace that feels comfortable and empowering. I am currently training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and also training to become a Certified Trauma Specialist, strengthening my ability to support clients with trauma-informed care and values-based tools for meaningful change.

Whether someone is coping with stress, anxiety, self-esteem challenges, relationship concerns, or life transitions, I strive to help them feel seen and supported while building insight, resilience, and healthier ways of coping.
I’m also passionate about personal growth and lifelong learning, and I’m continually seeking new ways to strengthen my skills so I can better support others on their path toward mental and emotional wellness.
