TRAUMA/POLYVAGAL INFORMED:

Hello there! My name is Jesenia Villoldo (she/her)

I have an immense passion for working with individuals, couples, and families and slowly shifting the perspective from “what is wrong with you?” to “what happened to you?” I provide a non-judgmental environment, and I will work with you to help develop your coping skills, resolve past hurts, and help you move forward with your strengths. It may seem to you at times like the different parts of you are just too complicated, battling each other, or just not being understood. I offer a safe space to be able to be heard, understood, and guide you from “surviving” to “thriving”. It is okay to not be okay, and you deserve to find some peace regardless of the circumstance.

I work with individuals who are experiencing anxiety, depression, recovering from complex trauma (C-PTSD), PTSD, or facing a life transition that is affecting their lives and diving deeper into the somatic symptoms that get in the way of their everyday functioning. My work with couples and families primarily focuses on coping with a family member's mental health issue and/or diagnosis, conflict resolution, communication skills, coping with divorce/separation, family of origin issues, and generational trauma that shows up in current relationships.

My approach to counseling is rooted in a holistic approach, primarily using Polyvagal theory, Internal Family Systems, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). With individualized treatment plans, I ensure that I am taking you as you are and your specific treatment goals while working with all facets of your mind, body, and soul. I use a collaborative approach where you and I can identify symptoms, work through past traumas, navigate the impact on your overall functioning, and gain the tools to be able to teach your body how to regulate your nervous system and emotions.

Unresolved trauma can leave you with feelings of hopelessness, guilt, and shame, and due to the physical impacts of trauma and anxiety, I focus on dealing with all aspects of life that have caused you distress and what the best course of action is for you. In my practice, I include mindfulness, breath work, yoga exercises, neurobiology education, inner-child work, anger management, and somatic therapy techniques.

Fun facts about me: I am a Military Veteran and speak Spanish. When I am not learning about counseling or nerding out on a new podcast, you will usually find me at the beach, weightlifting, practicing yoga, gardening, Salsa dancing, or playing with my dog, Bruno.
